Salt can be a preservative, a corrosive, a seasoning, important to survival, essential in small quantities and harmful in excess.

It is a common household item with a long and intriguing history, shaping civilisation and influencing the founding of trade routes and cities; a substance so valuable it served as currency. Over the centuries salt has provoked wars, secured empires and inspired revolutions.

This exhibition by a group of sixteen contemporary artists and designer-makers explores salt and its place in our daily lives and beyond.
